Khadam

Set in the 1950s, the story follows Melor, a mute mother of two who is next in line to inherit her family’s Khadam, a djinn passed down through generations. Knowing the terrible consequences and the long-lasting bond that can never be broken, Melor is determined not to become the entity’s new master. In retaliation, the saka torments her family, particularly her daughter, Puteh, who is next in line to inherit it. This forces Melor to appease the saka, just as her mother and grandmother did before her. While the pacified saka initially does her bidding, the cost of her being a weak mistress is high, and the entity begins to slowly consume her. Melor’s sister, Manis, urges her to break the pact, but things quickly go awry when her abusive husband, Awang, returns after a long absence, having been away working for months. Melor begins losing her sense of identity and is gripped by paranoia, she grows increasingly volatile as her control over the saka slips. While Puteh and Hitam scramble to figure out the truth behind the double in their house, the saka’s grip on Melor’s life becomes absolute. Melor is forced into a final, harrowing sacrifice to contain the darkness she unleashed.
